- We will work with you to devise a personal development plan tailored to your needs and ambitions. This personalised approach also extends to providing one-to-one coaching and mentoring to springboard performance
- We run dedicated training programmes for every level of employee – from junior staff to senior partners. If you change roles or assignments, you can be sure you’ll receive all the necessary training and development support
- All associates receive comprehensive management and commercial training, in addition to legal training
- Our dedicated IT support team are on hand to help with any aspect of IT training, from software courses to technical queries, to how to make the most of our intranet
What is your role?
Trainee Solicitor (UK)
From the moment you join as a trainee solicitor, you can expect plenty of responsibility, variety and opportunity.
Training Contracts
- We have 60 trainee solicitor vacancies a year
- Training contracts last for two years. During this time you will have four six-month placements or ‘seats’, gaining experience in different practice areas
- To develop you and your legal skills even further, you could be seconded to one of our regional or international offices or even spend time on secondment with a client
- You’ll be encouraged to broaden your skills by getting involved in no-fee (pro bono) community activities
- You will be allocated a supervisor for each seat who will help with your career planning. You will also have a mentor for the two years of your training contract – a fee-earner who will take a close interest in your development
- As well as on-the-job learning we place great emphasis on training, so you will attend a variety of courses, lectures and workshops to give you both management skills (such as language tuition and business skills) and technical expertise
- You will be fast-tracked through the compulsory elements of the Professional Skills course

Qualified Associate
We provide an ongoing training programme for all our qualified fee-earners that’s designed to develop your knowledge, stretch and challenge you and hone your skills. This breaks down into three structured programmes:
- Legal and Commercial Skills Passport - our Legal and Commercial Skills Passport scheme is for all our newly qualified associates. The focus in on developing your legal skills and commercial acumen so that you can provide our clients with a broad range of legal advice and business solutions
- Excel Programme - once you’ve been qualified for two years our Excel programme will help you develop the business and management skills you’ll need to become a leading lawyer – from people and project managements skills to client consulting skills
- Senior Development Programme - when you have five years’ experience under your belt, you can develop your expertise even further on our Senior Development Programme. It is open to all senior associates and offers one-to-one development coaching that’s supported by a range of training modules, from winning business to leading and managing a profitable practice

Partner
We provide high quality, concentrated and practical training opportunities for our partners, tailored to each individual’s specific personal requirements.
Partner Development Programme
Our Partner Development Programme (PDP) is aimed primarily at those who have just been promoted to partner, or who have recently joined the firm as a partner. However, all elements are open to any partner at any time.
The programme is designed to help you operate with more confidence and effectiveness in all aspects of your career. You can choose from a range of modules, according to your individual need.

Business Services
We offer all kinds of training and development to support you at every stage of your career. We work with you to devise an individual development plan of training and other development to support you in the specifics of your role.
If you wish to gain a professional qualification, the firm provides a study assistance programme, paying for all course fees and allowing you time off to study and to take exams.
Secretary
All secretaries at CMS Cameron McKenna are offered a comprehensive programme of training that covers:
- Secretarial business skills
- IT skills
- Legal skills
- Financial skills
Additional one-off courses are available, depending on your individual learning and development needs.
The firm offers a study assistance programme if you wish to study for your ILEX qualification or take the advanced Microsoft Office Specialist programme.
