Vanessa Whitman qualified with CMS Cameron McKenna in February 2008 and works primarily on contentious matters for banks and insolvency professionals.

In 2008/2009, Vanessa spent 6 months on secondment at HSBC, where she worked on PPI and CCA litigation under the direction of Alan Burden’s team.
Vanessa has advised clients on various aspects of insolvency law, and has particular experience of both in-court and out-of-court administration applications, as well as various other insolvency related court applications.

Vanessa also has experience of advising clients how to deal with Serious Fraud Office cases and other fraud related matters.

Relevant experience:

  • Vanessa was the lead assistant on a matter which involved her working very closely with an international bank which had lent more than £700 million to an individual who turned out to have lied about his identity.  Vanessa was part of the team who devised and implemented a plan to exercise the bank’s security swiftly, ensuring loss to the bank was minimised. She is currently advising the bank on various additional recovery routes, including giving strategic advice on litigious matters.

In 2010, Vanessa worked for a bank client on the successful administration application of a high-profile nationwide property group, which was strongly contested by the group’s director.
  • In August 2011, Vanessa was one of the team which obtained a freezing order from the High Court in London within 3 hours of receiving instructions from a Lyon-based client who was new to the firm.
