Tom is a Partner in the Intellectual Property team of the Commercial, Regulatory and Disputes practice, with substantial experience of the protection and enforcement of all intellectual property rights, both contentious and non contentious, as well as marketing and advertising issues. He has considerable experience of trade marks, passing off and branding strategy and enforcement.

Tom has a particular focus on the consumer products, TMT and financial services sectors, and acts for many of the largest names in the industry, with portfolios including confectionery, health and beauty, food and drink, alcohol, petcare, cleaning and household products, telecommunications, electronics, banking, e-commerce and retail. As well as advising on IP and related issues, Tom acts as Client Relationship Partner for many of these clients.

As a solicitor advocate, Tom has particular expertise in contentious brand protection and has led cases in The High Court, the Patents Court and Patents County Court, the Court of Appeal, the European Court of Justice and the Privy Council, as well as in criminal cases in the Magistrates and Crown Court. Many of his cases are the leading authority on particular issues, including dilution (INTELMARK) and post-sale confusion (Datacard v Eagle Technologies) Tom is an associate member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and the author of the infringement and anti-counterfeiting chapters of the leading practitioners' text, The Trade Mark Handbook.

Tom is also a member of INTA's European Amicus committee and the Marques Anti-Counterfeiting and Parallel Trade team. Chambers and Partners 2011 (IP) described Tom as one to watch, noting he was "very strategic and pragmatic in his advice”.
