Stephen Millar

Stephen Millar is a partner in the Energy Team.   

Stephen has extensive knowledge of the upstream oil and gas sectors with a particular emphasis on the buying and selling of oil and gas assets on the UK Continental Shelf and internationally. He has experience of a wide array of deal structures in addition to mainstream buying and selling, including leasing structures, temporary transfer and re-transfer arrangements and a variety of structures to provide for the sharing of decommissioning liabilities.   

He has acted on many of the most significant transactions that have taken place in the North Sea in the last 10 years, often leading combined teams from the Aberdeen and other offices. A number of these transactions have involved new structures to address new issues facing the oil and gas industry.   

Relevant experience includes advising:   

• BP Exploration Operating Company Limited on an exchange of BP's interests in the Everest, Lomond and Armada fields with BG's interests in the Amethyst, Wollaston and Whittle, Minerva Hub, Neptune and Mercury fields, a transaction that involves the transfer of a number of major operatorships  
• Talisman Energy on the leasing of the Beatrice field and the related Nigg Oil Terminal to Ithaca Energy for a period following which the assets shall be returned to Talisma Energy at which time the assets will be decommissioned
• Eni UK on the £210 million acquisition of Tullow Oil's interest in the Hewett field for the development of the largest gas storage project in the UK
