Rob Wilson is a partner and leads and manages the Edinburgh office of CMS Cameron McKenna LLP and the disputes team in Scotland. 

Rob is a disputes lawyer with a background in energy and professional indemnity claims. He is dual qualified and practises in both Scotland and England litigating, when necessary, in the Court of Session, Edinburgh and/or in the High Court, London. Rob also has experience of mediation and arbitration. 

Rob’s experience as a commercial litigator is wide ranging. In particular, he works with energy companies on a regular basis advising on disputes often of a construction/engineering nature. Rob also works closely with the insurance industry in relation to professional indemnity claims against construction and engineering professionals, architects, surveyors, accountants, IFAs and brokers.  Rob advises on both the defence of such claims and also on policy issues.

During 2008, Rob worked closely with a leading utility company in Scotland, spending 9 months with them as Acting Legal Director of one of their divisions.  As a result, Rob understands the pressures on an internal legal team in dealing with day-to-day commercial issues.   

Relevant experience includes advising:

  • A major utility on an expert determination and the purported exhaustion of a gas reservoir
  • A wind farm developer in relation to the judicial review of planning permission previously obtained
  • A drilling contractor regarding a day-rates claim of US$45 million in relation to the hire of a drilling rig
  • Consulting engineers and their insurers in relation to the structural design of piling works in Glasgow and the collapse of a neighbouring building (claim value £1.5 million)
  • IFAs and their insurers on claims arising out of pensions/investment advice
  • Insurance brokers and their insurers in relation to issues arising from a breach of warranty claim
  • Consulting engineers and their insurers (QBE) in relation to storm damage to a stadium roof in Edinburgh
  • An exploration company in the High Court for proceedings arising under a JOA following the drilling of a dry exploratory well
  • A Hong Kong cotton trading company, in the Court of Session and also the High Court, London, in relation to a dispute (claims totalling US$120 million) arising from the negotiation of a production sharing agreements in Turkmenistan and associated banking issues
