CMS Cameron McKenna LLP is pleased to announce that Daniel Winterfeldt, a leading capital markets partner, will be joining the firm on 1 February 2011. Daniel will head up the firm’s International Capital Markets (ICM) group. This move further consolidates our extensive international debt and equity capital markets offering with the over 40 partners in 13 jurisdictions across the United Kingdom and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The ICM group will work closely with CMS lawyers in a further 15 CMS jurisdictions, in a total of 53 offices, in Western and Central Europe and beyond.

Daniel is a US securities lawyer with over twelve years’ experience in the New York and London capital markets. Daniel has significant experience in representing US, UK, European and Asian investment banks and corporate issuers on a wide range of international securities transactions. Daniel started working in the London market in 2000 with five years at the London office of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, and worked subsequently at the London offices of Jones Day and Simmons & Simmons. Legal 500 for 2010 praised him as “much-admired” and the IFLR 1000 for 2010 called him “very smart and very approachable” and “very good for issuers and very knowledgeable”. The Lawyer placed Daniel in its annual Hot 100 Lawyers for 2009 and he was shortlisted in 2010 for “Solicitor of the Year – Private Practice” by the Law Society Excellence Awards.

Jason Harding, Partner and Head of Debt Capital Markets and Derivatives, comments “We are delighted to welcome Daniel to the firm. He brings with him a wealth of experience and industry knowledge and we look forward to him taking a leading role in expanding our already considerable expertise in the United Kingdom, Western Europe, CEE and further afield.”

Mike Jones, Partner and Head of Equity Capital Markets, added, “Daniel will significantly enhance our service to the many FTSE 250 and other listed companies that we already act for and allow us to develop our growing institutional client base across all areas of capital markets work.”

“I was drawn to the firm’s strength in international capital markets across their Western Europe and CEE network, providing an excellent platform for expansion,” Daniel also added.  “They have a fantastic team already in place and I look forward to helping build their business further by strengthening relationships with their existing client base as well as potential new clients.”

Daniel is the founder of the Forum for US Securities Lawyers in London (Forum), a trade association representing US-qualified lawyers and participants in the London capital markets. Membership is over 1,500 people and includes US-qualified lawyers practicing at over 45 law firms and 30 financial institutions in the London capital markets, as well as market participants including securities exchanges, settlement systems and registrars. The Forum was “Shortlisted” for Law Firm Innovation of the Year by the British Legal Awards in 2009.

Daniel is also recognised as a leader in championing equality and diversity in the legal sector. He launched the InterLaw Diversity Forum for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Networks (InterLaw Diversity Forum) in 2008, an inter-organisational forum for the LGBT networks in law firms and all personnel (lawyers and non-lawyers) in the legal sector, including in-house counsel, and has over 1,000 members and supporters from more than 70 law firms and 40 corporates and financial institutions.  The InterLaw Diversity Forum has been recognised by various awards, including “Standout Winner” for Diversity by the FT Innovative Lawyers Report in 2008.
