Mike Munro is a Partner in the Financial Services and Capital Markets team, specialising in complex insurance, reinsurance and alternative risk transfer. Mike works with a diverse range of clients (including major (re)insurers, financial institutions, captives and professional advisors) involved in the international risk transfer markets, covering both life and general business. With extensive experience of major transactional, as well as contentious, matters, his recent track record includes:
· Advising a UK life insurer on the purchase of collateralised longevity-only reinsurance in respect of its £1.6bn book of in-payment annuities
· Advising a major investment bank on the provision of a £3bn longevity hedge to the trustees of a UK pension scheme, and associated risk syndication
· Representing a specialist long-term insurer on the purchase of collateralised longevity only reinsurances in respect of risks associated with a £500m pension scheme
· Acting for a major East Asian government-backed financial institution on the development and execution of a collateralised excess of loss reinsurance transaction in respect of underlying mortgage-default (and associated asset price) risks
· Advising a major financial institution on numerous transactions involving the use of insurance and demand guarantee products for credit risk hedging purposes
· Advising a number of captive insurers, and providers, on the development and implementation of global fronting programmes in respect of professional and financial risks, and associated collateral and risk management structures
· Representing the Member Firm insurer of a major professional services firm on numerous co-ordinated arbitrations relating to the purported avoidance of multi-year excess of loss reinsurance programmes and associated recoveries
