Martin Brown

Martin Brown is a partner in CMS Cameron McKenna's banking team, specialising in corporate restructuring and insolvency.

Martin has extensive experience of advising clients with an interest in or involvement with businesses that are financially distressed or in a formal insolvency proceeding. His clients include banks, hedge funds, insolvency practitioners and directors as well as other parties affected when a company is in financial difficulties such as suppliers and pension trustees. 

Martin's experience includes 10 months on secondment to the workout team at RBS.   

Relevant experience includes advising:

• An investment bank on its acquisition of a company with rights to a major infrastructure asset in the power sector and the restructuring of associated debt, c£310 million (distressed infrastructure investment) 
• The administrators of Damovo, a distressed services group with businesses throughout Europe and which facilitated the restructuring of EUR450 million of debt (cross-border insolvency)
• A fund in relation to its various interests in the Lehman group following its collapse   
• A bank in relation to its global exposure to Kaupthing following its collapse   
• The agent bank on the successful restructuring of a FTSE-quoted software group resulting in full repayment of the banks and acting for senior agent and mezzanine agent on various leveraged deals in the leisure sector (restructuring syndicated debt)   
• The administrators of the business class only airline, Silverjet, and the administrators of the furniture retailer, ILVA UK (UK insolvencies)
• An investor in relation to its rescue package for a distressed mortgage lender (rescue finance)
