Mark Segall is a partner at CMS Cameron McKenna's Prague office and a member of the firm’s CEE Banking Group. His primary areas of expertise are general corporate lending, leveraged and acquisition finance across a wide spectrum of industry sectors. Before joining CMS Prague in November 2010 Mark was Head of Execution in the Financial Sponsor Solutions Group at UniCredit Corporate & Investment Banking in London with a focus on the execution of leveraged finance and financial sponsor related transactions. While at UniCredit Mark was involved in some of the largest and most notable transactions in the CEE region.
Mark has broad experience working with banks and financial sponsors including, among others, RBS, Lloyds Banking Group, Société Générale, BNP Paribas, ING, Raiffeisen, Calyon, Barclays Capital, Citibank, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, KKR, Permira, CVC, Cinven, Mid Europa Partners, EQT Partners, Advent International, Lion Capital, BC Partners, IK Investment Partners, Warburg Pincus and Hg Capital.
Mark’s most significant experience at UniCredit includes:
- CVC’s acquisition of Starbev (the CEE operations of Anheuser-Busch InBev), the first buy-out of significant size in CEE following the Lehman crash and which involved a club of 14 banks and was named European Deal of the Year for 2009 by Private Equity News.
- In 2009 a number of other CEE buy-outs including Mid Europa Partners’ acquisition of UPC Slovenia, BC Partners’ acquisition of Futurelab/ Synlab (a pan-European testing laboratory group) and EQT Partners’ acquisition of CableTel (a Bulgarian/ Macedonian cable business).
- Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity’s (now BAML Capital Partners) and Ares Life Science’s acquisition of Euromedic International, a pan-European medical service provider headquartered in Hungary.
- Lion Capital’s acquisition of Russian Alcohol Group, a principal Russian vodka distributor, which was only the second LBO ever completed in Russia.
- IK Investment Partners’ acquisition of Axtone SA, a rail safety manufacturing business based in Poland.
- EQT Partners’ and GIC’s acquisition of Springer Science + Business Media, which was the largest successfully syndicated LBO post-Lehman.
- Hg Capital’s acquisition of TeamSystem SpA, an Italian information technology and outsourcing business.
- Cinven’s acquisition of Sebia, a laboratory instrument development business based in France.
- Permira’s acquisition of Arysta LifeScience, one of the world’s largest agrochemical businesses headquartered in Japan and with operations worldwide, in the largest ever LBO in Japan which was named Asian Loan of the Year and Asian Leveraged Loan of the Year in 2008 by International Financial Review (IFR).
- Permira’s simultaneous public-to-private acquisition of Valentino Fashion Group in Italy and Hugo Boss AG in Germany.
