Maria is a senior, specialist banking lawyer who heads up the Scottish banking team.

The range of work in which Maria has been involved is varied and includes:   

  • General corporate, leveraged funding (Scotland, England & Wales) 
  • Real estate acquisition/development facilities
  • International funding arrangements  
  • Restructurings in conjunction with other CMS teams  
  • On a day-to-day basis Maria gives advice on many aspects of security, banking law, debt, corporate law and insolvency and works for domestic and international banks, other lenders and all categories of borrower. Maria works within the Hotels & Leisure, Consumer Products, Energy and Infrastructure and Project Finance sector groups.

Recent experience includes:

  • Advising IVG Developments (Broadway) Limited on the financing of a city centre office development in Glasgow
  • Advising CitizenM on development financing for a city centre CitizenM hotel in Glasgow -CitizenM’s first hotel outside the Netherlands
  • Working in the team on the North Sea “legal first” lease arrangement for the Beatrice oil field and the Nigg Oil Terminal from Talisman Energy to Ithaca Energy 
  • Working in the team acting for Bank of Scotland on Scotland's largest PFI healthcare scheme to date - the £33m Forth Valley Hospital  
  • Acting for a UK clearing bank in connection with realising value in stranded property asset as a result of insolvency aspects  
  • Advising on the Scottish finance and security aspects of a hotel portfolio securitisation
