The Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) has appointed Victoria Peckett, a partner in the construction team at CMS Cameron McKenna, to chair its important drafting sub-committee.
Victoria has extensive experience with all the main published standard suites of construction contracts and has prepared and negotiated numerous contracts for procurers and suppliers of construction, engineering and consultancy services. These include consultant appointments and building contracts, both bespoke and based on standard forms. She has worked with high-profile clients such as Prudential Property Investment Managers, Imperial College, ISG InteriorExterior and Canary Wharf Contractors.
Victoria also has a long track record of dealing with contractual claims and disputes.
Professor Peter Hibberd, JCT chairman, said: "The drafting committee has a crucial role to play as it is not only responsible for overseeing the drafting of new standard forms of contract, it also has to handle the discussions and negotiations between the various parts of the industry to gain the consensus to enable the new contract form to go forward.
"It is a formidable role which I am sure Victoria will handle admirably."
Victoria said of her appointment: "I am very pleased to have been asked to take on this important position for JCT, which with its responsibility for the country's leading suite of contracts, plays a crucial role in the UK construction industry."
