Description:

The Second Candlewick Debate

4:30 for 5:00 pm at the Stationers’ Hall, Ave Maria Lane (opposite Paternoster Square)

After the very successful first debate last year on the Liquidity Crisis, Alderman Fiona Woolf and Simon Morris, of CMS Cameron McKenna (who spoke last year) ably assisted by Sheriff Roger Gifford, Chairman of the Foreign Bankers Association have organised another debate to look at the financial crisis from different angles.

The title of the debate poses challenges to a number of different City institutions and businesses as to how they could or should respond. It will be open to a wide audience drawn not only from banks, fund managers, insurance professionals and others in the Ward of Candlewick but also from the Foreign Bankers Association and others who that have City interests.

This year’s speakers are at the top of their professions and occupy key roles:

Stuart Fraser

Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee of the Corporation of London

Sheriff Alderman Roger Gifford

Alderman and Chairman of the Foreign Bankers Association

Mark Field MP

Member of Parliament for the City and Westminster

Anthony Belchambers

Chief Executive of the Futures and Options Association

Simon Morris

Partner, CMS Cameron McKenna and an expert in financial services regulation

As last year, as many participants as possible will be encouraged to make contributions to the debate. CMS Cameron McKenna is kindly hosting a reception after the debate. We hope it will be warm enough to enjoy drinks and canapés outside in the very pleasant courtyard of Stationers’ Hall.
