Henry Sherman is a Partner in the Construction team. Since joining the firm in 1983 he has specialised in construction disputes work of all kinds.

From 1985 to 1987 and again in 1997-98 Henry worked as a partner in our Hong Kong office on disputes arising from projects including the transport infrastructure network for the new Hong Kong airport.  In the UK, Europe and the Middle and Far East Henry acts for a wide range of clients, often working with colleagues from our overseas offices and our CMS network of law firms. In addition to advising on English court proceedings, Henry advises clients in relation to adjudications and all forms of ADR. He also represents clients in arbitrations in the UK and internationally, conducted under the rules of the ICC, UNCITRAL and other bodies. 

Relevant experience includes advising:

  • A Japanese corporation in relation to disputes arising from the construction of a desalination and power plant project in Saudi Arabia
  • A Turkish contractor in relation to claims arising during the construction of a major transport infrastructure project in Dubai
  • Japanese contractors in High Court proceedings relating to the construction of an airport terminal in the Philippines, including advice on the enforcement of judgments and issues of conflicts of laws
  • A Polish city municipality in relation to an ICC arbitration concerning an infrastructure project
  • An Italian contractor in relation to claims relating to an office development in Moscow including a mediation and ICC arbitration proceedings
  • The UK Department of Transport in relation to disputes arising from the construction of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link
  • A contractor and subsequently its administrators with regard to disputes arising from contracts for the refurbishment of London Underground lines including the pursuit and defence of adjudications and High Court proceedings


Education:

University of Oxford, BA in jurisprudence, 1972. Post graduate comparative law scholarship, University of Aix-Marseille, France, 1973/4. Admitted to practice as a solicitor in England & Wales (1977) and in Hong Kong (1985).
