Firm appointed to refreshed National Grid UK legal panel

Date: 31/01/2010
Robert Lane CBE
CMS Cameron McKenna LLP has been appointed to National Grid’s revised UK legal panel following a 25% reduction in its number of preferred law firms.

The firm’s appointment follows a rigorous review and tender process conducted by National Grid’s Legal and Procurement teams together with an external consultant. The firm now sits on four panels, which is more than any of the 16 firms that have been appointed. The panels include:

• Commercial, Construction & Disputes
• Energy & Regulation (including Competition)
• Health, Safety & Environment
• Employment

The new Panel arrangements will take effect from 1 April 2011.  The Panel firms will report to Group Company Secretary & General Counsel, Helen Mahy. Helen Mahy said: “The appointment of this new Panel following an extensive and rigorous selection process reinforces National Grid’s key requirement for high quality, cost effective and innovative law firms to support our own professional in-house team.”

Robert Lane, Head of the Regulated Industries Team, led on the pitch process comments “We are delighted to have been appointed to four of National Grid’s practice group panels, more than any of our peers. We look forward to working with National Grid and assisting them in achieving their goals.”

CMS Cameron McKenna now advises four of the major formerly-nationalised UK public services - BT, Royal Mail, BG Group (formerly part of British Gas) and National Grid, as well as a number of other utilities. This speaks volumes of our strength in advising businesses operating in highly regulated markets.
