Firm advises Imperial College London in purchase of new premises

Date: 04/09/2009
CMS Cameron McKenna LLP has advised Imperial College London on the purchase of the BBC’s Woodlands site in west London for £28 million.

The 7.7 acre site, which was previously occupied by BBC Worldwide, the BBC's commercial subsidiary, will be used by Imperial College London for a mixture of teaching, research and administration activities, as well as for other uses such as student accommodation. Imperial is a world-renowned science based institution with a reputation for excellence in teaching and research.

The site forms part of the area covered by the vision for Creative London, a new creative industries quarter for London.

Richard Curtis, Senior Associate at CMS Cameron McKenna comments on the successful purchase, “We are very pleased to have worked with the team at Imperial College London to secure this key site for the development and expansion of their administrative, teaching and research facilities.”

Dr Martin Knight, Chief Operating Officer of Imperial College London, said: “This purchase is an investment in Imperial’s future growth and development. The acquired site, so close to our existing west London campuses, will allow us to create new teaching, research and administration facilities. It will also allow us to extend provision of quality affordable student accommodation, particularly for postgraduates. ”

The CMS Cameron McKenna team was led by Richard Curtis with the assistance of Marianne Rodgers.
