CMS Cameron McKenna LLP has advised Eagle Technologies (Eagle), leading distributor of Card ID Printers/Systems, consumables, plastic cards and general badge accessories, in a successful bid to overturn patents held by Datacard Group (Datacard).

The judgment was handed down in the case of Datacard v Eagle on 14 February and followed over a year of litigation work involving two patent proceedings and trade mark litigation in the English Courts, numerous oppositions at the European Patent Office, and coordinating with US Counsel on proceedings in Minnesota.

The team at CMS was led by Intellectual Property Partner, Nick Beckett and included Senior Associates, Tom Scourfield and David Sant.

Nick Beckett comments, “We have been working together on the case since November 2009 and are very pleased that our provision of specialist industry knowledge resulted in the successful outcome for Eagle Technologies.”

Chris Rayner, Managing Director & Founder of Eagle comments, “CMS formed a true partnership with Eagle, from the outset. They were attentive and knowledgeable giving clear, concise and reasoned advice. Nick has certainly formed a formidable team of seasoned professionals, at the very top of their game. CMS worked tirelessly and went to great lengths to secure our win.”
