Dan Mares

Dan Mares is a partner at CMS Cameron McKenna in the Bucharest office. He leads the Real Estate Practice Group and has over 13 years experience.

Dan has been working with CMS Cameron McKenna since 1999. As Head of the Bucharest Real Estate team, he has been involved in many ground-breaking and successful transactions, including advising Erste Bank in its successful acquisition of BCR – the largest privatisation transaction in Romania to date.    

Dan's team is currently advising a large number of developers, investors, banks, owners, occupiers and other players on the Romanian property market in relation to various retail, office, residential and logistics developments and projects.

Relevant experience includes advising:    

• Atenor on land purchase and partnership agreements on an ideally situated plot, allowing the phased construction and development of a series of office and shopping buildings in Bucharest (with a total useable area of 60,000 m2)
• Mivan on development issues and the lease of retail units in a chain of shopping centres located throughout Romania   
• Westhill on land acquisitions for the development of shopping malls, joint venture, borrowing, forward-sales and leasing of retail units
• Salamanca (group of Fleming Family & Partners) on land acquisitions and joint ventures for residential developments

Education:

Dan holds a Degree in Law from the University of Bucharest, an LLM in Public International Law and a Masters Programme In Public International Law, Human Rights and Humanitarian Law from Lund University/Roul Wallenberg Institute, Sweden. He participated in the summer courses on EC Law and Protection of Human Rights in Europe at the European University Institute, Florence, Italy and attended courses on the German legal system at the Deutsche Stiftung für Internationale Rechtliche Zusammenarbeit e.V. – Bonn/Schaller, Just & Engellbrecht, Germany.
