Employment

 Or

The effective management of staff is key to the success of modern businesses. Our employment team is recognised as a market leader in its ability to advise on the growing volume of employment law in the UK and we work regularly with clients in the consumer products industry.  From the correct documentation at the recruitment stage through to termination of employment (and everything in-between), our team will work alongside you to ensure you face employment issues, and in particular, the resolution of disputes, with confidence.

Our focus is on high level, complex employment issues. We provide practical, strategic and cost-effective advice to employers, working with in-house lawyers or HR to ensure our input meets their needs.

We are a full-service employment team advising on all aspects of the employment relationship, including executive service agreements, board room changes, restructuring and collective redundancies and restrictive covenants. A significant part of our practice covers advising on the employment aspects of corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, integration and disposals, as well as real estate, projects and outsourcings. We have particular expertise in high value or commercially sensitive litigation, both in the employment tribunal and High Court.

We are members of the Employment Lawyers’ Association (ELA) and the European Employment Lawyers’ Association (EELA).

Relevant experience includes advising:

  • Advising a leading supermarket chain on the employment aspects of its acquisition of numerous stores across the UK, including TUPE implications, contractual terms and related employee information and consultation
  • Representing a major multinational producer of power tools and accessories in a High Court claim regarding the cross-border enforceability of restrictive covenants, in relation to collective redundancies at two manufacturing plants, and on making changes to terms and conditions across various jurisdictions, including the reduction of working hours
  • Advising a leading market research organisation on a long-term dispute with HMRC over the employment status of a significant proportion of its workforce
  • Providing day-to-day employment advice support to an operator of outlet shopping villages
  • Advising a client on the disposal of part of its UK operations and addressing complex employment issues for its 2000-strong workforce
  • One of the UK’s largest employers on a wide range of industrial relations and employment issues, on a series of outsourcings and on a challenge by the Union relating to the franchising of many of its outlets
  • Advising a warehousing and logistics company on employee issues including TUPE, employee information and consultation, workforce restructuring and redundancy, and trade union recognition
  • Representing consumer product clients on a number of high value employment tribunal and High Court claims.  Issues involved have included race and disability discrimination, whistleblowing, unfair dismissal, constructive dismissal, breach of contract, bonus payments, protective awards, personal injury and injunctive relief in respect of enforcing restrictive covenants
  • Advising the European Commission on the cross-border dimension of the Acquired Rights Directive (and TUPE)
