CMS further strengthens financial institutions and insurance capabilities

18/11/2010

Description:
CMS Cameron McKenna LLP ("CMS") is delighted to announce the further strengthening of its capabilities in the financial services and insurance sectors through the recruitment of Mike Munro and James Parker as Partners from Barlow Lyde & Gilbert LLP (“BLG”). At present, the date of their arrival at CMS remains to be confirmed.

Mike and James will sit within CMS’ Financial Services and Capital Markets team in London. They will bring extensive experience of complex risk transfer arrangements, working with a range of insurers, reinsurers and other financial institutions involved at the interface between the (re)insurance and capital markets.

In recent years, the pair have established a particular reputation as leaders in the rapidly developing pensions and annuity risk transfer market, acting on numerous innovative transactions including the largest syndicated longevity insurance solution concluded to date in the UK defined benefit market and the largest syndicated longevity reinsurance transaction for annuity risks.

The hires follow the adoption in May this year, of a new practice group structure for the firm, which saw the Technology Litigation, Financial Services and Competition groups joining the Insurance & Reinsurance Group (IRG), with the litigators from Banking and the Capital Markets team, to focus on the Financial Services sector. This created a new Practice Group called Commercial, Regulatory and Disputes (CRD), bringing together non-contentious and contentious teams with complementary skills across the financial services sector. CRD is now comprised of 43 partners and 255 fee-earners.

UK Practice Group head, Liam O’Connell, said: "We are really excited that Mike and James have decided to join us. We have a clear strategic focus on the financial services, capital markets and insurance sectors and see continued convergence between them. As a firm, we are committed to further co-ordinating, strengthening and broadening our offering to clients operating in these markets and these new hires are a significant step towards this goal.”

Managing Partner, Duncan Weston commented: "This is excellent news for us and, more importantly, for our clients. Mike and James are established leaders in the insurance and financial services sectors and we see tremendous synergies there and for our pensions practice, both in terms of clients and expertise. We very much look forward to their arrival.”
