CMS focuses Litigation on the Financial Services Sector

Date: 29/04/2010
Liam O'Connell
CMS Cameron McKenna LLP has undertaken changes to the UK practice group structure of the firm, further uniting the firm’s dispute practice by restructuring the commercial practice group.

Currently, the Commercial Group comprises six teams: Pensions; Employment; Immigration; Technology Litigation; Financial Services; and Competition.

From 1 May, the Technology Litigation, Financial Services and Competition groups will join the Insurance & Reinsurance Group (IRG), with the litigators from Banking and the Capital Markets team, to focus on the Financial Services sector. This will create a new Practice Group called Commercial, Regulatory and Disputes (CRD). This new name is to reflect the three key work types this group covers. Liam O'Connell, who is currently Practice Group Manager of IRG, will become the UK Practice Group Manager of this new Group.

Additionally, from 1 May, the UK Pensions, Employment and Immigration teams will move from Commercial to form a new Practice Group called Human Capital. Nigel Moore will continue to act as Practice Group Manager of this group and his role as Managing Director, UK.

Managing Partner, Duncan Weston, comments: “The advantage of this new structure is that each of the teams will form part of a practice group where the teams involved have complementary skills and/or interests in the same business sectors and clients.”

He adds, “This will provide more opportunities for greater collaboration on the Financial Services Sector to include both contentious and non-contentious work and consolidate the offering of the Dispute Resolution Group (DRG), which links all litigators across the firm.

“This move really reinforces our strengths to our clients, while maintaining the important sector focus. Team members welcome this exciting change, with the leadership team confident that this structure will create more opportunities for development, with client seeing the benefits both in technical service delivery and the sharing of industry knowledge.”

In January 2009, CMS Cameron McKenna formed the global Dispute Resolution Group (DRG), it now comprises 40 partners and over 220 associates internationally.

The DRG brought together lawyers involved in all forms of dispute resolution, including litigation, arbitration, mediation, expert determination and adjudication, and specialist strategic advice on avoiding disputes.
