Providing specialist business focused energy legal advice in Brazil
Brazil is Latin America's largest economy and is fast becoming an economic superpower. Energy and natural resources are providing significant drivers to economic growth, led by oil & gas exploration and development. Mergers and acquisitions and private equity investment have reached record levels in recent years, while government initiatives, the 2014 World Cup, and the Rio Olympics in 2016 have all had a significant impact on infrastructure and related investments.
Our office is based in Rio de Janeiro, the centre of Brazil’s oil & gas industry. We have extensive experience in the oil & gas sector, as well as in mining, shipbuilding, telecommunications and infrastructure projects. Our sector focus allows us to understand clients’ commercial drivers and offer much more than just technical legal services, including advice on market practice, negotiating positions and risk assessment.
We also advise on cross border corporate and finance transactions across a range of sectors. These include foreign direct investment, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity, capital markets, project finance and corporate lending.
Brazilian Bar Association regulations do not currently permit foreign law firms to practice Brazilian law. We work with a select network of Brazilian-qualified consultants for matters requiring specific Brazilian law input. All our attorneys are fluent in Portuguese and English, and services can also be provided in French, Spanish and Russian.
