Ash trained at the firm and qualified as a solicitor in the financial services team in September 1998, becoming a partner in May 2006.

He advises clients on a wide range of non-contentious financial services regulatory and related matters. Such clients include banks, broker-dealers, funds, investment managers, insurers and insurance intermediaries and other financial institutions, as well as the large corporate customers and suppliers of these types of institutions.

He regularly advises on authorisation and compliance requirements, product design and distribution, cross border business, insider dealing and market abuse, anti-money laundering requirements, as well as the regulatory aspects of mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, joint ventures and outsourcings.  

Relevant experience includes advising:   

  • Advising a number of investment managers on regulatory issues, compliance with UK and overseas regulatory obligations and cross-border distribution and marketing of both onshore and offshore products.
  • Advising on the establishment, marketing and on-going activities of investment fund supermarkets and other related “fund of funds” and “multi manager” arrangements.
  • Advising a life assurer on the outsourcing of its fund management operations, including drafting and negotiating the related agreements.
  • Advising numerous financial institutions on the Financial Services Authority's rules and guidance on outsourcing, and on systems and controls issues in particular.
  • Drafting and negotiating numerous non-IT related outsourcing agreements for financial institutions, and assisting with the regulatory aspects of IT related material outsourcing agreements.
