Anthony Fincham has specialised in employment law for more than 25 years and is head of our UK Employment team.  Anthony's major areas of work include directors' service agreements, remuneration packages, discrimination, sales and purchases of businesses, outsourcing, restrictive covenants and industrial relations. He has wide experience of litigation in both the High Court and appellate courts and in Employment Tribunals.

He is an accredited mediator and among the first to be recognised as a leader in that field by Chambers directory. He regularly mediates commercial and employment disputes with a wide variety of subject matter.

Anthony is a member of City of London Solicitors Company Employment Law Sub-Committee. He is also a member of the Employment Lawyers Association (ELA) and the European Employment Lawyers Association (EELA).   

Chambers and Partners 2009 described Anthony as “highly accomplished” and stated he “gives sensible, practicable advice and gets great results”.  The employment team is recommended by Chambers and Partners 2008 for both general employment law advice and corporate support and clients are “full of praise for the lawyers' attention to detail and responsiveness”.  PLC 2009 also recommend Anthony and say that he is “a well-known commercial litigator experienced in advising on all aspects of employment law”.  The Legal 500 2009/10 states that Anthony gives “advice that deals with and responds to real business issues”.  

Recent experience includes:

  • Advising on the employment aspects of corporate transactions, outsourcing, restructuring, relocations and changing terms and conditions of employment. 
  • Advising the EU on cross border employment transfers. 
  • Co-ordinating advice over most European jurisdictions in relation to proposed pay reductions. 
  • A global manufacturer on a lading case on the enforcement of cross border restrictive covenants. 
  • Acting for an international bank in defending various high court and employment tribunal claims including stress at work and discrimination. 
  • Defending Royal Mail on a significant test case on TUPE at the Court of Appeal. 
  • Advising UK and Irish Banks on bonus payments following the banking crisis. 
  • Mediating a variety of employment and industrial relations claims.
