Alex Doughty is a partner focused on Banking and Finance work, based in the London office. He is the Co-ordinator of the firm's CEE/Emerging Markets Banking and Finance Practice.
Alex has a wealth of experience from practising across a large number of jurisdictions. As well as providing general advice on a wide range of banking, infrastructure and project finance, real estate finance, acquisition/leveraged finance, regulatory and derivative/treasury matters, he has been involved in the structuring of around US$45 billion of debt finance-related deals across several industry sectors (many involving an ECA or multi-lateral party such as Coface, EBRD, EIB. EIF, Eximbank, Hermes, Heximbank, IBRD, IFC, Jeximbank, Mehib, OPIC and Sace).
Alex has around 25 years' experience in the finance sector, as well as an MBA in finance (City University Business School). Prior to pursuing his legal career, Alex worked in London as an investment banker. This experience gives him the insight to be able to truly focus on the client’s commercial objectives and to identify structures and solutions that optimise and enhance the outcome for the client.
Relevant experience includes advising:
- Grupa LOTOS on the financing of the US$2.85 billion upgrade and extension of the company's oil refinery located in Gdansk, Poland. This transaction was awarded the European Oil Deal of the Year 2008, by Project Finance International
- BERt (an EdF subsidiary) on borrower financing of four co-generation power plants and general syndicated facilities totalling in aggregate US$500 million
- EBRD and IFC on multi-lateral lenders (as investors and as lenders) on an approx EUR110 million financing of a Croatian hotel and leisure operator
- Citi and a large Uk bank (as mandated lead arrangers), on the US$2.1 billion syndicated loan for MOL Oil and Gas Company
